"Brains"

“For an exhibition a few years ago, I made twenty-four glass sculptures in the shape of blue heads. My inspiration came from the story of a young woman called Karolina Olsson who one winter’s day in 1876, on her way home over the frozen sea between Öland and the mainland, fell and knocked her head. The next morning she woke up, fell back asleep, and did not wake up again until 1908. By then her mother had passed away, her two brothers had drowned, and Sweden and Norway had separated. Karolina only remembered a great darkness. And blue men.”
